All About Hi-Pot Test And Quality Control

When a process of inspection is carried out, the firm determining the quality of the product carries out several tests. The kinds of tests depend on the product type, which is under the test of quality control. One of the essential types of test which gets carried out in case of electrical products is known as the hipot test. Many popular industries invest in quality Hipot test kit in order to determine whether the products conform to the standards of quality or not.

The term hipot basically means high potential. This test helps to verify the insulation of the electrical products so that the user remains protected from the hazards of electrical shocks. This enhances the reliability of the users in electrical appliances, circuit boards, cables, and motors. An extremely high degree of voltage gets applied at the time of hipot testing. The use of Hipot tester in India is also popular as it can detect the leakage of current from any product.

Common Types Of Tests Carried Out By Hipot Test Equipment:

* Test For Dielectric Breakdown:
In this type, the voltage gets increased until there is breakdown or failure of the dielectric. This helps in finding out the highest degree of voltage which the cable is able to handle. Thus, the capacity of the cable gets determined by the test. This type of test destroys the dielectric capacity of the product and thus is mainly applied to samples.

* Test For Dielectric Voltage Withstanding: In this type of test, the voltage of a standard level gets applied which helps in monitoring the leakage of current. The current flow is always kept below the normal limit for a certain period of time. The dielectric system does not get destroyed in this type hipot testing. Thus, this method can be applied for checking most of the electrical products for their quality concerns.

* Test For Insulation Resistance: This test helps in detecting the value of resistance of the insulation of the product. The degrees of current and voltage are used for calculating the insulation resistance. This makes sure that the electrical instruments are safe for use and can be sold in the market without any threats of harm to the end users.

In case of AC hipot test, the frequency level is kept quite low and always ranges in between 0.01 to 1.00 Hz. This type of testing is also known as the VLF (very low frequency) hipot testing. It has wide uses all over India and caters to many important industries. This testing method is mainly carried out in case of offline cables. During the test, the cable is always disconnected from the main power system and is properly grounded as well.

The voltage here is reduced to almost zero and the cable as well as the VLF instrument is totally discharged before the testing takes place. This method helps to detect any type of fault that exists in the instrument so that they can be repaired before final setup.

Hipot instrument purchased from reliable Hipot tester manufacturer in India ensures high accuracy and precision at the time of testing. The models today are quite affordable and are available in different designs suiting every application.
